Jay King, W2AFE, held an impromptu video conferencing meeting at this Saturday's PVARC coffee clatch. The popularity of the video conferencing app used by many groups to conduct face to face meetings has exploded recently due to social distancing restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the announcement of the ban on social gatherings, PVARC officers had postponed or cancelled any upcoming events including the April 4th monthly business meeting. During last Saturday's 2 meter net, created to take the place of the usual Saturday morning get together, Jay suggested we try the app which was widely accepted by about eight club members present on the net. A trial run was conducted and the decision was made to hold the meeting on the 4th virtually by way of Zoom.
Basically, it works like this. Download the Zoom app for you Android or iPhone device. Set up the account and tell the app you want to join a meeting. There will be someone monitoring the 147.320 MHz repeater around 0830 hours, about a half hour before the meeting. At that time someone will have the conference code available on the 147.320 repeater or you can call Jim at 575.208.9696 if the repeater is down.
Zoom can also be accessed on the internet at https://zoom.us/. Use caution when using a PC or laptop that your speakers and camera are configured properly in the event they don't work initially.
As always, the public is invited to attend.
